Clermont Family Martial Arts Center is known for generating nearly 100 World and Elite World Champions, who all compete at the extremely intense and competitive levels of the International Martial Arts Festival held annually at Disney’s Wide World of Sports, broadcasted on EPSN.
Recently, Clermont Family Martial Arts Center, under the direction and guidance of Mr. Jim Shipley, owner, rallied around an 11-year-old Clermont boy. Sammy Buran was diagnosed on January 5, 2019 with Stage III Brain Cancer. Mr. Shipley inspired his students, students’ parents, community and local businesses to action to hold a benefit event for young Sammy.
On March 15th, 2019 Clermont Family Martial Arts Center hosted a remarkably successful Kick-a-Thon. Students and their parents obtained pledges for kicks. During this 3 hour event, a multitude of students of all ages passionately and enthusiastically performed hundreds and thousands of kicks, with multiple students reaching more than 4000 kicks in one hour, all in support of their fellow student Sammy.
Dozens of local businesses and vendors were present to honor and encourage this young man. As a result, Clermont Family Martial Arts Center, Mr. Jim Shipley, his students, their parents and the community raised over $19,000 to help offset Sammy‘s medical bills. Sammy’s story can be followed on Facebook on Sammy’s Fight group page.
