Saturday, July 6, 2019, the Club was once again host to the GIVE A DAY FOUNDATION, a youth volunteer organization led by Otis and Sandra Taylor of Clermont. The Taylors brought 14 young volunteers along with a few parents to the Lions Club shooting range for a morning round of skeet and pistol shooting. The range is located on SR 50 across from Tractor Supply and soon will be directly across from the new Groveland Public Safety Complex.
A splendid morning of target shooting with pistols and skeet shooting with 20 ga. shotguns was had by all. Hot dogs and hamburgers were served off the grill and watermelon slices out of the cooler were welcomed treats. The skeet shooting was a competition among the volunteers. TOP GUN, Christopher Bain (center) hit 3 out of 5 clays to take first place. Christopher, 19, has been volunteering with the Give A Day program for 5 years. He graduated from Champion Prep High School and is now attending Valencia State College with the goal of graduating with a degree in computer science.
The Club thanks Tom Fagan and Augusto Barney, two of the Club’s most ardent range patrons, for all the help they gave in making the event such a success. The range will be open to the public next Saturday, 8 – noon as well as the second, third and fourth Saturdays of each month. First Saturdays are for special programs such as the one held this past, first Saturday of July. For information on the range, contact Lion Dan Strauss at email@example.com
