The Granville Beville 2234, Bushnell, United Daughters of the Confederacy(R) met on Saturday, January 14, 2012 at the home of Mary Harrison. Bettye Jemison gave the history of her Confederate Ancestor: Great Uncle, Wright R. White who served in Company D, 30th Regiment Infantry in Kosciusko, MS. The 2nd VP, Bonnie Tenney told us of Rachael Kelley who is applying for a scholarship and will be asking that we sponsor her when her papers are finished. A nominating committee was appointed for the election of new officers for next two years to be brought to us at the March meeting. The Florida Division workshop will be held in Ocala on February 04, 2012.
The program was given by Mary Harrison on "Famous Onlookers". A number of onlookers of the Confederacy and the Union were marked by destiny for later fame, or, in some case, infamy.
Our day ended with the singing of "Dixie" and "Old Folks at Home." Collection of can good, pop tops, canceled stamps, box tops, pennies, nickels and dimes (Children of the Confederacy) and clothing for the Homeless Veterans in Orlando. Next meeting is a field trip to the historical Haile House in Gainesville in February. For more information contact: Carol Tomlinson, 352.516.5720 or Joyce White, 352.793.8119.
