Lake Minneola High to Present 'Twelfth Night'

Friday, February 3, 2012

In its first season, the "Birds of Play" drama students at Lake Minneola High are set to present the classic tale from Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night" with a unique twist on Feb. 9-11 at 7 p.m. in the school's auditorium, located at 101 N. Hancock Road, Minneola.

Students have been hard at work bringing Shakespeare's poetry to life on stage since early December. Many of the cast and crew members will be making their first official "Birds of Play" debut with this production."After surviving auditions and callbacks, the chosen cast members began working on the language, and to their surprise found that they actually understood what they were saying," said Kaitlin Baxter, Drama Director at Lake Minneola High School. "My kids have been working quite hard and I hope they get the recognition and audience they deserve."

The audience is invited to take a train ride to shady Chicago during Prohibition in the 1920s and laugh the night away. "Twelfth Night" tells the story of misplaced love, mistaken identity and mischievousness. The audience will meet Viola who is train-wrecked, alone and penniless. What's a girl to do? Dress as a boy, fall in love with her employer, gain the affections of another lady and get into a few brawls.

Admission to "Twelfth Night" is $6, or $4 with a student ID. The audience is encouraged to arrive early to catch the ritzy preshow, which the "Birds of Play" describes as the "cat's meow." For more information or reservations, e-mail Kaitlin Baxter at baxterk@lake.k12.fl.us.
