Free Tax Help
Friday, January 20, 2012
AARP Tax-Aide is a nonprofit program which provides free tax preparation and counseling. The service is intended for middle and low income taxpayers with emphasis on those over 60. A person does not have to be a member of AARP or over 55 to make use of this service. Tax help will be available from February 1 until April 16. Services will be provided in Clermont at Jenkins Auditorium, 691 Montrose Street on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Appointments can be made by calling 352-242-8886. Taxpayers need to bring social security cards for themselves and all dependents, all tax records (W2s, 1099s, dependent care provider information, etc.) and a copy of last year's tax return.
This program is staffed by volunteers who have attended a course on the Federal Tax Code and have passed a test to become certified counselors. The Tax-Aide program is funded and supported by the AARP Foundation and the Internal Revenue Service. Last year over 1235 tax returns were prepared at Jenkins Auditorium. This year the IRS expects refunds to be deposited into bank accounts 2 or 3 days after e-filing the return.
