Shepherd of the Hills helps FAITH Neighborhood Center

Friday, January 13, 2012

Members of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church gave more than 1,500 volunteer hours to FAITH Neighborhood Center this past year. The center benefited not only from the volunteer efforts but also through Thrivent Financial for Lutherans fund programs. Thrivent Financial is a not-for-profit organization and a Fortune 500 services organization called to care for others. Thrivent members connect with one another, strengthen their community and congregation and support individual needs.

Shepherd of the Hills Church, in partnership with Thrivent Financial, has supported many local projects this year. Thrivent awards grants on a matching-type basis. The local Lutheran church requesting the grants must "earn" those grants in a variety of prescribed ways. One of those ways is through volunteer work. This year, because of the volunteer hours given by members of Shepherd of the Hills, the Faith Neighborhood Center received $1,600 in grant money from Thrivent to purchase food for the needy in our area. Faith Neighborhood Center also received $372 to buy Christmas gifts for the children of those same needy families.
