Posted on Sunday, May 13, 2018 at 1:47 am

On Saturday May 19, from 10:30 to 12:30, Douglas Fernandez, one of Cuba’s top natural scientists will present a program on the Butterflies and Wildflowers of Cuba. This is the last opportunity to meet Mr. Fernandez before he travels back to Cuba.
Cuba is one of the world’s hot spots for biodiversity. A significant percentage of the plants and animals are unique to Cuba. This beautiful island has unspoiled beaches, tropical forests, savannas, and high mountains. There are 14 national parks in Cuba and many protected areas for viewing wildlife.
Douglas Fernandez has an excellent knowledge of the Cuban flora and fauna and has travelled extensively throughout the island to conduct research. Douglas has published a number of articles on Cuban butterflies and contributed a chapter on their biology to the book Lepidopteros de Cuba. He is currently working on field guides to Cuban butterflies and wildflowers.
Following the presentation, Douglas will be joined by Dr. Marc Minno and guests on a tour of the flora and fauna of the Florida Scrub-Jay Trail.
Cost of the program is $15.00 or $10.00 for Florida Scrub-Jay Trail members. RSVP Required- contact or call 352-429-5566.
