Friday Night Naturalist

Posted on Sunday, July 14, 2019 at 1:18 am

There is more to wildlife at the Trout Lake Nature Center (TLNC) than the casual observer may see. Thanks to some dedicated volunteers, we have been able to document and track the presence of many native species as they go about their business at TLNC. Our Wildlife Report will be the topic of the monthly Friday Night Naturalist program held on Friday, July 19 at 6 PM at TLNC.
Birding experts Bob Wexler, TLNC Board member, and Mary Wexler have led bird walks, counts and sunrise/sunset birding events for over 15 years. The Wexlers will give us updates on the birds found at and visiting TLNC.
Volunteers installed wildlife cameras along our trails and boardwalk. These camera are activated by motion and at night by infrared heat. What the cameras see when no one is around is enlightening. Eileen Tramontana, TLNC Executive Director will present the latest camera captures and what has occurred since habitat improvements were made. Our live Education Ambassador Gopher tortoise and snakes will be on hand for close-up encounters.
The Trout Lake Nature Center is located at 520 East CR 44, Eustis. Friday Night Naturalist programs are held monthly on the third Friday. These programs are free to attend but a $5 donation is suggested to support this independent non-profit’s future programs.
