Mushroom Foray at Trout Lake Nature Center

Posted on Sunday, July 7, 2019 at 1:48 am

Earlier this year an in-depth class was held about Florida mushrooms by the Trout Lake Nature Center (TLNC). Jon Martin aka Fungi Jon, mycologist, teacher and photographer from Central Florida who is passionate about wild mushrooms led the program. As the continuation or even as a independent program, Martin will lead a mushroom foray on July 13 starting at 9 AM.
Martin is a foray leader, trusted identifier, and assistant organizer with the Florida Academic Lichen and Fungi Enthusiasts League, an academic mycology club based out of the University of Florida and has rejoined us to lead this foray.
What is a mushroom foray? It is an organized group of people venturing into the forest to look for fungi or mushrooms. Through relatable, practical, witty and hands on instruction, Martin takes participants on a walk or foray into the woods surrounding TLNC. There you will discover what mushrooms grow there, where they can be found, how to collect them, how to identify them and more.
Cost to attend the Foray is $15 for TLNC members or $25 for non-members. Go to to register or learn more about the unique educational event. Or, call 352.357.7536. Trout Lake Nature Center is located at 520 East CR 44, Eustis, FL.
