It was in 1914 when David Riker, a blacksmith, brought his family, horses, and tools on two freight cars from Oregon to Marion County, Florida. He bought land and a house and began his wagon and blacksmith trade. Later his youngest son, Orval, expanded the business and opened O.A. Riker and Son garage to do mechanical work on heavy construction and farm equipment. As years passed Orval’s son, Vernon, having learned the trade as a teen, extended the business to include cars, tires and gas.
In the 1970s Vernon moved his family to Orange County where he and his sons, Brent and Blake, opened and operated service stations with bays for highly technical automotive repair and tire sales, in and around Orange County and I-Drive. In 1995 Brent opened Riker’s Automotive and Tire Center on Central Florida Parkway, which continues to thrive today.
Now, Blake’s son, Nick, having graduated in business from UCF, desires to continue the deep-seated Riker high tech mechanical businesses. He, too has had much experience in the trade, working many years for his uncle and also for Firestone. Learning that Matt Graham, well-respected owner of Palm Tire in Minneola had decided to retire, Nick contracted to purchase and operate his business and follow the honest, reliable and excellent services for which it is known. It has been a long and exciting journey for Nick and the Riker family and now Nick will continue the legacy.
