Greyhound Adoptions. Come join us on Saturday, September 1st, from noon to 3 p.m. at the Irish Trails Farm & Pet Supply in Clermont at 102 S. Hwy 27, Clermont, FL 34711 (352) 243-0924 to meet retired racing greyhounds ready for adoption. This beautiful and ancient breed makes an ideal house pet due to their gentle nature. They shed very little and, despite their speed, can be quite calm. In fact, in retirement, they are known as “the 40 mile an hour couch potato”. These are mature, adult dogs and they transition very easily into homes. Most get along great with other dogs and children and many are cat friendly, as well. Get to know these wonderful animals and speak with local greyhound owners. God’s Greyts Greyhound Group 407-578-7496. Find out more at www.godsgreyts.com
Piper Brown and Deacon…Together forever like Peanut Butter and Jelly. Say hello to our dynamic duo, Piper Brown and Deacon! This adorable brother and sister found their way to Houndhaven after they lost their happy home when they cornered a neighbor’s chicken. No harm came to the chicken, but the neighbor was none too happy, and Piper Brown and Deacon came to Houndhaven to start a new chapter in their life. There is no place like home, and Piper Brown and Deacon certainly miss the comfort of a home environment, but we’ve been making them feel very loved while we find them their forever home.
Piper Brown is a super sweet Chocolate lab, while Deacon is a handsome yellow lab. Both are six years young, and are perfectly sized to not take up much room. Piper Brown is on the petite side, weighing only 41 pounds, while Deacon is just a bit larger, weighing 50 pounds. They are a bonded pair, so we would like for them to be adopted together. Both are big love bugs and are so happy when the volunteers snuggle with them, and reward us with kisses of gratitude.
We have learned that while they love to be together, they also have a love for toys and a game of fetch. There is friendly competition to see who can catch the ball or toy first, and sometimes they return both holding a corner of the toy. They’ve been hanging out in the play yard with Julie, and seem to be enjoying her company. Piper Brown and Deacon walk nicely on a leash, and enjoy sightseeing while walking together. They know “sit” and are so eager to please, they will surely learn much more if given the opportunity.
Dogs are like potato chips, it’s hard to have just one. With a duo like Piper Brown and Deacon, you get a bonded pair that will love each other and YOU forever! Our volunteers find them to be endearing, and one has sponsored a portion of their adoption fee so they are a BOGO…buy one (adopt one), get one free. If you are interested in welcoming these two sweethearts into your home and family, please visit www.houndhaven.org to review our adoption policies and procedures, and complete an application. They will reward you with a lifetime of love, play and happiness!
Baxter – Sophisticated Senior in Search of a Home to Spend His Golden Years. Baxter is a very sweet senior boy that wandered on to the end of the lane of our rescue. He was very weak, thirsty, hungry, tired and very scared. Baxter may not be able to talk, but just by looking at his very sad eyes, we knew he was betrayed by whoever his family was. We did not know his name or where he came from – but one thing for sure is we knew we had to give him a strong name, show him plenty of TLC, security, and make sure he knows he is loved and will never be abandoned.
Baxter is estimated to be a 10 year old Australian cattle dog, up to date on shots, heart worm negative, loves to go for walks, knows basic commands, loves treats, gets along well with all dogs. He does not need to be crated – he is very good at home alone. Baxter does not even bark, he is a very quiet dog that never gets into trouble. He is the most harmless sweetest senior boy in the world. He shows nothing but unconditional love – he deserves that in return!!
To never know the love of a dog is to miss the best thing life has to give. If you are interested in giving Baxter a permanent loving home for whatever time he has left in this world, please call 352-240-1583 or 407-947-2329.
