Members of the Kiwanis Club of Clermont and other volunteers visited the children at Head Start for their last meeting of the semester. They were joined by Tobi, the Therapy Dog, teachers and nursing interns from Rasmussen College in Ocala, Florida.
The Kiwanis reader, Cleamstine Caple, Chairperson for Head Start Committee, read the book “What A Wonderful World” donated by Thom Battisto. The book is based on the song by Bob Thiele and George David Weiss, as sung by Louis Armstrong and Illustrated by Tim Hopgood. All in all there were 72 students who sat around Tobi in a semi-circle as the book was read and then joined in the singing of the song.
Chairperson, Cleamstine Caple thanked Thom Battisto for bringing Tobi, the Therapy Dog and presenting 32 books to the students, one of which she read. Students worked on their literacy skills and socialization during story time and also joined in the singing of the song. She also wished the faculty and students a happy summer and said she was looking forward to seeing them in the Fall of 2019.
