School is Back in Session

Posted on Friday, September 13, 2019 at 9:46 am

The 2019-2020 school year has begun and the children in South Lake County are busy learning their lessons in Math, English, Science, and more. But, are they learning about the history of their local community? Do they know about the Kern family who came here from New Jersey and became very influential people in Clermont? The son, William, was even the city’s third mayor. Do they know the story behind the start of the town’s first library? There was an unscrupulous salesman involved. Come to Clermont’s Historic Village and learn the answer to these and much more about our community’s history. Youngsters can even win a prize from the Treasure Chest for finding all the items in our Scavenger Hunt.
The Historic Village is located at 490 West Avenue in Clermont on the shores of beautiful Lake Minneola, just a few short blocks from Clermont’s Historic Downtown Shopping area. The Village is open every Friday from 1:00 to 3:00 PM and every Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 to 4:00 PM. Admission to the Historic Village is always free but a donation of $3.00 per person is requested.
If you are interested in history in general or the history of Lake County in particular, contact the South Lake County Historical Society by going to our website, ClermontVillage.org; by calling our manager, Roxanne Brown, at 352-432-3496 or by attending our membership meetings which are held on the second Monday of every month at 7:00 PM in the Train Depot in the Historic Village. Our next meeting is October 14th.
