South Lake Animal League Raises Funds with Help from Firefighters

calendar photoIt’s firemen to the rescue once again — only this time it’s not to rescue people from burning buildings. Thanks to the Groveland Fire Department, South Lake Animal League (SLAL) has created the 2016 Heroes with Heart Calendar featuring 12 months of firemen and women holding cuddly, adorable pets to help homeless animals in Lake County.
“The mission of the Groveland Fire Department is to protect the life and property of citizens in the City of Groveland. Oftentimes we respond to calls where we help people and their pets,” said Groveland Fire Chief, Willie Morgan. “This was a fun project and we were excited to partner with South Lake Animal League to raise awareness about the good work we both do in the community,” Morgan said.
All proceeds will benefit SLAL’s Sunshine Fund with a goal of raising $10,000 for the fund. The Sunshine Fund is the medical fund used for all dogs and cats needing additional veterinary care beyond the “norm” that come through the doors at SLAL. Funds allow pets to receive treatment for broken bones, skin infections, surgery, parvo, and other critical medical cases.
“We are deeply honored to have worked with the Groveland Fire Department—heroes right here in our own community—to make the Heroes with Heart Calendar. Not only are these first responders brave in the face of danger, but they also have a special place in their heart for animals. A win-win for making a fantastic calendar!” said South Lake Animal League President, Doreen Barker.
Last year, South Lake Animal League rescued and adopted nearly 1,000 animals from high-euthanasia shelters. “The support from our community, sponsors, donors, volunteers and calendar committee has been overwhelming. We could not have done it without their generous support, hard work and dedication to this project. We know we will be able to help a lot of pets with the funds we raise from this project,” said Jennifer Blank, South Lake Animal League’s Volunteer and Events Coordinator and Project Manager of the calendar.
Calendar pre-orders are being accepted online at www.slal.org/calendar. Calendars will be available for purchase in the fall and will be debuted at SLAL’s A Fetching Affair – Heroes with Heart gala on January 16, 2016 at Trilogy Orlando.
