Congressman Ross Spano recognized Zion Lutheran’s 100th Anniversary in a speech to the U.S. House of Representatives in May. Spano, who represents the 15th Congressional District, congratulated Zion and cited the church as “a shining example to the people of Groveland of what it means to be a Christian.” He ended his remarks with the recognition that, “you may be small in numbers, but you are, indeed, large in spirit.” On June 10, Samantha Surdin of Constituent Relations for Rep. Spano presented a copy of the Congressional Record to Zion at the church. Ms. Surdin’s work for the congressman covers the communities of Clermont and Groveland as well as the Four Corners area. Zion Lutheran, founded on May 19 of 1919, celebrated their anniversary in May but will continue to honor the work of their founders throughout this centennial year.
