I have toured many families. One of the most frequent questions that arises is, “When do you know it is time for assisted living?” It is different for every family dynamic, but there are some common threads to look for. Do they avoid stairs? Is the bathroom hard to navigate safely? Do you see an increased amount of household chores being delayed or not completed? Is the mail stacking up, and within that mail, do you see late notices? Is there expired food in the refrigerator or pantry? Are you noticing more frozen dinners or missed meals? Recent fender benders? Mismanaged meds? Phone calls from neighbors sharing concerns? Is there increased anxiety or change in personality such as depression, isolation or neglect in appearance?
These are clear signs that an assisted living facility should be considered. Imagine that you are in your twilight years. It is hard to overcome the loss of your spouse, friends or loved ones. I have seen many people come in isolated and alone, and within a short while, they are visiting with their new friends on the front porch!
If you are not sure, it is best to start having conversations with your loved one earlier rather than later. Please feel free to give us a call or stop by if you have questions on how to start the conversation. It would be our honor to help! Superior Residences, 1600 Hunt Trace Blvd., Clermont, 352-394-5549.
