Instead of a sleigh, members of Beta Theta, a chapter of ESA, packed an SUV with gifts and headed to Leisure Manor, a 24-bed assisted living facility in Minneola. You might say this is a Beta Theta tradition. Each year for decades, as the holiday approaches, the manor’s residents prepare their holiday wish lists. The lists are collected and sent to Santa’s Helpers, Beta Theta members.
Every Beta Theta member selects a name of one of the manor residents and attempts to fulfill his/her wishes. The lists include a variety of wishes: art supplies, sweets, CDs, clothes, shoes, colognes. Some wishes are difficult to attain but Beta Theta does its best. This project is heartwarming and gratifying, says Terry Moherek, a charter member of the philanthropic organization.
Since Beta Theta-Clermont was chartered 39 years ago, it has remained active in the community.
Last year its members, a group of 19 women, raised more than $15,000 at its major fund raiser, a Mardi Gras celebration. All proceeds were contributed to local high school scholarships and not for profit organizations. This season, Beta Theta is hosting its 14th Annual Mardi Gras Celebration on Saturday, February 10. The members are looking forward to your support and assistance in giving back to the community.
